7 treatment methods for degreasing metal surfaces before electroplating
The main causes of defects in electroplated products are: Surface oil stains are not cleaned thoroughly
- Traditional organic solvent degreasing
Features: Both saponified grease and non-grease can be dissolved and generally do not corrode parts. Degreasing is fast but not complete. Chemical or electrochemical methods are required to supplement degreasing. Traditional solvent-based cleaning agents (gasoline, kerosene, trichlorethylene, etc.) are flammable. At present, there has been a gradual shift to environmentally friendly, low-pollution, high-flash-point hydrocarbon cleaning agents.
Scope of application: It can initially degrease small parts with complex shapes (joints, blind holes), non-ferrous metal parts, parts with serious oil stains and parts that are easily corroded by alkaline solutions.
- Chemical degreasing
Features: Simple method, simple equipment, low cost, but long degreasing time.
Scope of application: general parts degreasing.
- Electrochemical degreasing
Features: High degreasing efficiency, capable of removing mechanical impurities such as floating ash on the surface of parts, wetted residues, etc. However, parts degreased by cathodic electrolysis are prone to hydrogen permeation, and oil stains in deep holes are removed slowly, and a DC power supply is required.
Scope of application: degreasing general parts or removing wetted residue.
- Wipe degreasing
Features: Flexible and convenient operation, not limited by parts, but high labor intensity and low efficiency.
Scope of application: Large and medium-sized parts or parts that are not suitable for degreasing by other methods.
- Drum degreasing
Features: High efficiency and good quality, but not suitable for large parts and parts that are easily deformed.
Scope of application: small parts with low precision.
- Ultrasonic cleaning and degreasing
Features:
No.1: This product is non-toxic, non-irritating, has no peculiar smell, does not contain APEO, is not flammable or explosive, is environmentally friendly, and is fully biodegradable.
No.2: Excellent acid and alkali resistance (above 30% NaOH)
No.3: Suitable for preparing acidic, neutral and alkaline cleaning agents with strong compatibility.
No.4: Good water solubility, low foam cleaning throughout the process.
Scope of application: For degreasing special parts with complex shapes, water-based ultrasonic cleaning agents are more effective.
- High pressure spray degreasing
Features: Little corrosion to the substrate, high degreasing efficiency, and good purification effect. The corners, pores, blind holes and cavity inner walls of complex parts can be degreased.
Scope of application: High-pressure spray cleaning of metal parts, plastics and hard surfaces.
